Is there a means to add users to Site level for temporary access and then remove them using code modification?

I am currently facing an issue were users are getting added to site level and given access but they are not removed from site level after the action is completed.

What possible scenarios need such site level addition?

I need to understand how I can achieve this and where should I be looking to understand the cause for this problem.
