We are just getting started using a Workgroup Manager and our first CAD tool is NX. During the installation/configuration of the WGM client, we registered our Windchill server. The url to our Windchill installation is something like https://www.myCompany.com/Windchill. The installer took the www.myCompany.com and put it in the "Server Name" field. This didn't work because this is actually our reverse-proxy name. We had to add the real server name in the Workgroup Manager: myServer.domain.net. Since the server is really behind a firewall, we don't want every engineer on the project to have the name of the server. Can we do something so that the WGM uses the www.myCompany.com reference?

I am not sure I am quite understand what you are asking, but here goes...
The Windchill Server Name Field in the WGM Server Registration is just a name to identify the server - it is the URL that is key for connecting. You can hence set it to what ever you like.
If you mean when you first register the server, it pre-populates the name field with the hostname from the server URL and it is greyed out and non-editable, you can cancel out of this and delete/re-register it from scratch with whatever name you want.
If you want to change it by default you can edit the server url at the bottom of the wgmclient.ini file in the WGM loadpoint on the client machine that has the wgm installed.
If none of the above, then can you explain a bit more clearly?

The message I got during the registration was "Invalid server location. Please change the "Location" field and try again."
The Location field is not editable at this point. We thought this error was due to the value put into the "Name" field by default and that we needed to change that name to be the actual server name. What we did discover is that message was indicating that we weren't yet logged into Windchill. Once we clicked on the "Verify" button, a login panel popped up and we were able to log in. We then set the "Name" to some random name that was not the actual server name and everything worked. This is what happens with newbies to the CAD tools and the Workgroup Managers. We have been using Windchill (PDMLink) for many years, but this is our first attempt to use the WGM. Reading your response gave me the idea that the message wasn't really about the name field. Thank you.
We do have a reverse proxy and LB which shields the application layer and users use cluster URL or reverse proxy server URL to connect through WGM. Could you elaborate what error are you getting while you enter the reverse proxy server URL in WGM?
Thank you
