Large number of attribute in EPMDoc template

Hello

we have 9.1M050. We have around 500 attributes associated to EPMDocument.

We always found that the advanced search was slow. Our previous consultant blame it on our hardware (not enough memory etc... etc..)

Our new consultant said he optimized the config of Windchill. It got better but users still find it too slow. Normally between 2 to 5 min to get a results. It does not matter if the result table shows 5 object or 500. Recently, they tried to index a table in oracle but we did not notice the difference.

They have also added that we should have never created the 500 attributes in the same table (ie associated to the EPMDoc from the Template window). They said Partlink would be better......

I am jubiuous with all those suggestion.

Can that number of attributes be really our problem with the speed ?

How many parameters do you have associated to EPMDocument ?

The way we work is that not each EPMdocument needs the 500 parameters. We populate the EPMdocument from CAD file.

That is we use ProE and a custom tool (parameter creator) to create the parameters needed for a given CAD file One file could have only 10 parameters, another one 20 etc... It depends on what the model is supposed to represent.

I would like to hear from your experience with the parameters for EPMDocument and how it affects the speed of the search.

If I compare with SAP for instance, We also have a large quantity of material with classes and characteristics and it is a lot quicker

Therefore, there is consideration to forget about searching in PDMLink.

Thank you

Best regards

I have heard that a large number of attributes will kill your search speed as the system has to look through them all for your criteria.

I only have about 15 plus the PTC standard ones in PDMLink.

Hi Ben

thank you for your reply. That does not sound good for us.....

However, I guess it depends on what Large means 🙂

I do not know your business nor the product but if you work for a discrete manufacturer you must have a need to classifying the various components, assemblies etc....

We have those parameters because we need to sort/search/classify/compare per brand, raw material, coating, dimensions, component types, assembly type, features, spacing, ISO standards etc....

When we acquired Windchill we did not buy partlink, maybe that was a mistake ?

Best regards
