Library nightmare

Library nightmare

Gurus,

Ever since we went to Intralink our library has been a nightmare. Our
library consists of the standard library supplied by PTC and some vendor
parts. We use model parameters to drive the BOM in our drawings. Filling out
the parameters in the PTC parts is irritating to say the least. We have to
check out the generic with all the instances, open the nested generic, add
parameter to family table, fill out parameter, and save. If it worked just
like that, we would be okay, but we usually suffer from one of the following
issues: Very long retrieval time, long wait for family table to pop up,
problems saving, lock-ups, etc. Maybe family tables of this size are just
not worth the effort. Do you have the same sort of problems? Does it get
better with the new releases? How do you handle the thousands of screws,
nuts, and washers? Have you noticed a difference in time between checking
out as a link versus local copy?

RE: Library nightmare

Eric you are suffering because you have nested family tables. These
are the worst creations ever invented.

Re: Library nightmare

At a certain point, we weren't able to check-out our assemblies anymore from the Commonspace. Retrievaltime of assemblies with instances of hugh family tables was not to be proud of. For all these reasons, we converted all our instances back to regular parts. We loose the 'replace'-functionality, but Intralink and ProE performance is back to normal.

Regards, Hugo.
