Migration and replica sites

Migration and replica sites

I have successfully had a test migration from Intralink 3.4 M030 to Windchill Intralink 9.1 M060.
I've also tested replication with a small number of files.
It works, but it would take weeks to re-replicate to my 2 remote sites.

And my management finds ad-hoc replication unacceptable.
When we go live, they want everything already replicated.

The replica files from 3.4 are aready at the remote sites.
Can they be migrated as well?

If not, what other options are there to re-replicate quickly after migration?

Gerry,

When we upgrade to windchill 8.0, and implemented replication for 3 remotes sites(india, france, and Kansas), we used a procedure called local replication. The procedure involves:

1. Creating a local replication server i.e close to your master server.

2. Replicate the files to that local replica server.

3. Copy the replicated files onto a removable disk and ship it to the remote site.

4. Once there, copy the content of the disk to the remote replica server

5. Use the FileServer admin GUI to update the Site and other information on the master so it recognizes the new server.

6. Perform a broadcast config to ensure the master is communicating with the replica.

Now, this is the procedure we used after migration intralink 3.3 to PDMLink 8.0.

I think the easiest supported method is to just bring the replica machines in house to the master location. Perform a replication locally and afterwards ship the replica servers quickly out to their remote sites and bring online.

Gerry,

The whole activity depends on what is the data size you are planning to
Replicate.
Replication will take its own time (There are may factors involved here
like Network Speed involved between the sites, the Heap sizes which are set
on the current system and many more).

I would go with the Chukwuka solution of doing the local replication as it
will save most of the time. But please be cautious while carrying out the
Steps involved in the Local Replication.

Thanks to all that replied.
Most people recommended the local replication method, which would work best for us.
In their documentation, PTC recommends this method as well, but does not document the procedure itself.
They state that it should only be done by PTC services.
However, several of you sent me the procedure, which appears to be very simple.
It should be very easy to test using a couple of virtual machines.

Thanks again!

Gerry

Good deal Gerry. Just let me know if you need any further help.
