Version: Windchill 13.0

Use Case: Data migration between different Windchill versions

Description:

Hi Experts,

We need some guidance regarding data migration between different Windchill versions. Alternatively, please let us know if there are other methods available to achieve our goal.

To provide a quick overview, we aim to have identical test data across our four Windchill instances: WC 13, WC 12, WC 11.2, and WC 13.1.0. Currently, we have a significant amount of test data in our WC 13 instance that we need to replicate across the other versions.

Based on this, we have the following specific questions:

* Is it possible to export Whole Product data from one Windchill version (e.g., WC 13.2) to another (e.g., WC 11.2)?
* Can we export entire folders inside the Product from one Windchill instance (e.g., WC 13) to a different version (e.g., WC 12)?
* Is it possible to export a specific user's workspace (including all data created by that user, for example, user X) to a different Windchill version?

Here is the main hub for all things import/export: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS175236?source=Bloop

Sounds like packages might be what you want for the test data. This shows compatibility between versions: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS323534?source=search

I think the 11.2 version might be your problem but that version is unsupported currently. If you are developing custom solutions that you want to have work in 11.2, I would consider just upgrading them to eliminate that version from consideration.

I do not think exporting a workspace is possible. I have never heard of that being done. I think you would be better suited recreating that to a specification for testing in each system. Workspaces are temporary things which just contain specific iterations of objects. They can be created and recreated easily enough.
