NX opening and closing files, when opening "structure only" connected to WGM

Version: Windchill 12.1

Use Case: User opens a top level assembly file, with the NX load options set to "structure only" and "partial load-lightweight". During the opening process, a few hundred files are opened, saved, and closed, before the top level assembly is opened and displayed as "structure only".

Description:

Using NX 2206.9220 with WGM 12.1.2.1

This issue doesn't occur for every user, and it is one assembly in particular (that we know of).  Normal load time for this assembly as "structure only" is about 1-2 minutes.  For users experiencing the issue, it's an hour or more, and over 200 parts are opened, saved, and closed during the process.  We have looked at NX load options, and the settings are the same.

Also of note, in the NX syslog files, there are a large number of "PSM Validation Report---" entries when the opening/saving/closing behavior occurs.  There are no entries for this when a user does not experience the behavior.  Information on the PSM Validation Report entry is limited, but it has something to do with a Teamcenter or Windchill connection.

I have open tickets with Siemens and PTC on this issue, but looking for any insight that others may have.

Hi @Dave_K,

Thank you for your question.

Your post appears well documented but has not yet received any response. I am replying to raise awareness. Hopefully, another community member will be able to help.

Also, feel free to add any additional information you think might be relevant. It sometimes helps to have screenshots to better understand what you are trying to do.

@Dave_K sounds like a problematic behavior. "structure only" and "partial load-lightweight" ought to be quick without the opening and saving, etc. of all of the BOM.

Are you using Wave links to routing object geometry (or some other wave link to what Windchill doesn't yet support as a reference) in your assemblies?

We observe a similar behavior with Wave links created using Routing Objects... especially when part families are involved. What I have my users do is ensure that they "Add to workspace" ENTIRE part families so that NX has in the local cache access to all instances it may need to update a model even if Windchill isn't capable to recognize which ones it may require.

The other thing to consider as well - if the syslog is complaining about Teamcenter or Windchill issues - is that there could be some sort of behavior in NX that is causing excessive calculations on the Windchill end and that is ultimately what's giving rise to this excessive time to open/load. We ran into this with reporting NX_Mass when there were modeling "issues" so to say. NX didn't recognize anything as wrong, but however the model was trying to calculate mass caused Windchill to just sit there for as long as 30 minutes on opens or saves until it would sort out the issue. The resolution was to turn off mass reporting from NX to Windchill.

In NX, it might be worthwhile running:

- Examine Geometry

- Feature Reply

- Part Cleanup

All that with the model FULLY LOADED. This ought to point out any model consistency errors. What you're looking for is that Data Structures, Consistency, Face-face intersections and Self-intersections are passing. If not, that could be part of the issue as well that NX can work through but Windchill cannot.

We do use some wave links, but we discovered today, it appears the files that open in additional NX windows, are "not synchronized with workspace".
