PDML & ProE Licenses

PDML & ProE Licenses

We're having license problems for remote WAN users connecting to PDMLink - users report losing a license while working in ProE & PDML. Our servers are in Calif and this is affecting users in UK and EU, again - while working in the software. I could understand if they were called away and the license timed out but that is not the case.

Have others encountered licensing problems w/PDMLink & ProE? The same users never had this problem with IL 3.4 and Windchill doesn't have a license server, so I'm puzzled as to why this happens now w/ProE licenses & PDMLink.

PTC has offered to troubleshoot in a test environment but we don't have one yet and this has been an ongoing problem.

ProE WF4 M190 & PDML 9.1 M060.

Thanks for any suggestions that are offered.

Got some questions:

  • Are you getting no server connection which points to Windchill?

    • Then your ProE session ask to work offline.

  • Or are you getting ProE license flexlm issue where it states unable to attain license?

    • Then your Flexlm server has issues connecting to ProE

You mention WAN and accross oceans. We had that issue with latency and poor connections across waters. Suggestions is to have:

  • a remote VLAN switch in the UKoffice where your usealways connected to your internal North America site.

  • get better throughput with the remote router

  • replicated Windchill server or a triad ProE license configuration in UK

  • use Windows 2007 64bit with at least 8gigs of RAM and a

Are you interested in investing and saving using ZERO CLIENT technology through the WAN? It has major benefits of true virtualization of applicaiton desktop. http://searchvirtualdesktop.techtarget.com/definition/zero-client

We are are going to try to benchmark it overseas to our servers locally.
