Promotion questions

I'm having one of those days where I think thinks are set the way they
should be, but things aren't acting like I expect and am stumped.

I have an object say a WTPart that is at Prototype and I want to
Promote it to PreProduction.

Both of these are controlled states where an ME would have Read,
Download and Revise.
The Lifecycle transition for Prototype states are PreProduction and Production
The ME role has Create for Open states of a Promotion Notice
The ME role has Set State for WTObject all states.

I select the WTPart, select Promote from the actions.
On Step 3: Edit Object List, I get a yellow triangle that states:
"Warning: Insufficient permissions to promote object in context. This
object is not eligible for promotion."

I'm stumped with what needs to be set, it's probably staring me right
in the face, but I'm too close to see it.

At some release of 9.0, PTC added the requirement that a user creating a promotion request has to have Modify permission for each object being promoted, at its beginning state (absurd - but some customer must have asked for it). As of I think M050, there is a preference to turn this off.

As far as I know, this isn't in the "what's new" documentation for 9 and isn't documented in how Promotion works in general.

The only way we discovered it was testing as you are doing (resulting several tech support calls), and then also by methodically going thru all 465 preferences in 9.0.
