Question about Cloning Systems.

Newbie

Question about Cloning Systems.

Has anyone tried to clone a PDMLink environment from one server to another
by

(1) replacing the installation on one server by copying over the install
from another environment
(2) changing the names of the servers in all the files (identified by doing
a content search)
(3) reading ldif file
(4) reading database dump file

I just tried this and am running into a problem with ldap, for some reason
PDMLink on the new box wants to connect to the old and I get an LDAP Error
32 (as the old environment is not available for it to connect).

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Re: Question about Cloning Systems.

assuming you replaced all connection details within your ldap, I'd guess
$WT_HOME/tasks/wt/federation/MapCredentials.xml may still contain the
old ldap info.
also make sure you remove compiled tasks by deleting
$WT_HOME/tasks/codebase to force recompilation
a good candidate if you copied the oracle database data would also be
remoteobjectinfo table ...

generally you can clone a system this way.

Re: Question about Cloning Systems.

Hi,

I dont know which PDMLink version you are trying to
clone but here are some points to note incase when ur
cloned system tries to connect to the Original PDMLINK
system:

######PDMLink 6.x release:
Try to locate these files and see whether u have
change the settings (using the content search u have
mentioned) to reflect ur new machine(name) and LDAP
path settings:

- <wt_home>\codebase\wt.properties
- <wt_home>\codebase\WEB-INF\ie.properties
- <wt_home>\codebase\WEB-INF\web.xml

Apart from these 3 files if u r trying to import the
LDAP (*.ldif) from the Original PDMLink system change
the machine name and LDAP path settings to the new
settings before importing them for the cloned system.

######PDMLink 7.x & 8.x release:
Apart from the files to be changed as mentioned above
u need to make changes in the file:

- <wt_home>\site.xconf
and then run the command "xconfmanager -p" from the
windchill shell.

If u still get the same error then do send me the
error log this time..
