Recreating lost Windchill installation files.

Hi,
We are unable to find the installation files that we used for our
PDMLink 9.1 M030 installation. We are trying to install projectlink now, and
installer doesn't recognize the currently installed products.
I am thinking of installing Windchill on a separate machine with same
directory structure, copying the installation files to our test server and
making the necessary changes to reflect our installed product versions.
I am wondering if any of you tried this method. Any help /insights would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

How were the files lost? When the initial install was done, it will usually put in a pointer to the registry installer file that has that info. This pointer is stored inside your profile (documents and settings\username\application data\ptc or something like that). If you are installing as a different user, then the pointer file will not exist in your profile. There are two components to this.

1- The pointer file in your profile

2- The install registry info (D:\ptc\installer)

Prathap,

The file you are looking for is called psi_iir.xml and it is usually located in your windchill loadpoint similar to this D:\ptc\installer\instreg\ii-7e3e4e23.128ea28da61.-8000. You want to use the one that contains all your install components. When you find that one, and if it is not name psi_iir.xml, rename it to this. There other similarly named files in this location, but some has numbers as part of the name like so psi_iir.001.xml and etc.

Thanks Steve and Alex for the information. I found the pointer in the
service account profile
(<home_directory>/.ptc/windchill/psi_iir_index.xml).
However the directory it is pointing to, does not exist in the
installer/instreg directory. There are other directories which have
installation files from failed runs.

I will start with those files and see if I can modify them to reflect the
current installation.

Prathap,

If this is on a UNIX platform, you can simple look for the file psi_iir.xml in <loadpoint>/installer/instreg. Where loadpoint might be /opt/ptc/installer/instreg/....
