From the upgrades I've done, i've always done them on the same machine.
But you can do things to make life easier, one of them is to upgrade
8.0's db to 10g prior to the upgrade. It is a supported db as of 8.0
M040.
You can also run your 8.0 system off the 9.0 Aphelion. I don't have
my instructions in front of me but it is possible.
I did find the upgrade guide to be a pretty miserable guide. You had
to keep skipping forward and back in the guide instead of going from
the beginning to end.
