WC Fault tolerance on the WAN

All,

For those who are managing CAD data in WC (PDMLink-Pro/Intralink) in a WAN environment, what special considerations/settings/configs/hardware are mandated by the WAN (vs. LAN)? Is there some threshold of WAN performance (latency, # hops, etc.) that would dictate changing the WC or Creo Parametric settings? We've reviewed the PTC Docs, TPIs, TANs, etc., but we're interested in what companies are doing in their environment.

We're running Creo Parametric 2.0 M060 and Pro/Intralink 10.1 M030 in a combination of WAN (US only), LAN, and MAN (metropolitan area network). While our LAN/MAN users are faster than our WAN users, the WAN users are still "stable". We do not currently have different Creo Parametric settings for LAN vs. WAN users, but are investigating it.

One of the reasons for asking this question is we had a change to a network in one of our buildings that caused the network routing to flip from our MAN to the WAN. Every Creo Parametric-Pro/Intralink user in that particular building immediately started to have Creo Parametric crashing/hanging issues when linked to Pro/Intralink. While we would have expected the users to be slower because of the WAN routing, we didn't expect them to be so unstable. We have resolved the network routing issue, but unfortunately don't have data to help investigate why the change in routing caused the instability. We're not sure if we crossed some WC latency threshold, had data/packet loss, or ??????
