A slight twist on this issue.
When youclear the workspace cache, is there an advantage to deleting the PTC directory vs JUST clearing the cache? Or is clearing the cache good enough? Can the pdmlink.xxx.com directory be deleted?
Basically I am looking to find out whatthe lowest level directory that can be deleted iswithout having the user's settings/favorites/ect deleted.
Steve GHi Steve, Wildfire 3 and Wildfire 4 handle cache differently, WF4 handling things much better than WF3.
Clearing the cache from the Pro/E window cleans up disk space, but in my experience it hasn't been very good about fixing problems. It obviously doesn't work if you're Pro/E crashes as soon as you try to open it.
I don't profess to completely understand the .cache files, but I believe the files you want to stay away from to maintain preferences are under ...\\Application Data\PTC\ProENGINEER\Wildfire\.wf\.Section and .wf\.Settings.
If on Wildfire 4, you have the ..\.wf\.cache2008 folder, whcih contains your cache for whatever server you are logged into.
Again, I'm not an expert by any means regarding the .cache folders, so these are just some hints to point you in the right direction.
Good luck!
