Windchill: emailing a Document

Windchill: emailing a Document

I recently was requested is there a way to email documents from a WC container out and use client mail service?

I wanted to pick our collective brains first, attached I made concept of how it could work? a NEW Email button?

I notice WC has a email button in Teams containers so the function does exist.

Right now our project leads are downloading files to a network drive so they can gather them up for vendor quotes, I believe this is extra work for them and we have a potential loss of data.

And saving files outside on the network which defeats the purpose of WC. If files are shore on the network drive then who's to say the latest revisions can be?

these files are in PDF formats to represent the drawings.

we can not use desktop integration on our network

any thoughts?EMAIL FROM WC.png

As Marco Tosin‌‌ mentioned, Windchill 10.2 M030 added Email Document as a new feature. It is available in the HTML interface and can use Outlook as the email client instead of Windchill.

Instead of writing customization to send email with primary content, you can use Packages. You can create  package with require data/documents.  Create delivery and send delivery to users (There are different options available to send delivery)  Windchill will email zip file containing primary content of all document to require user.

Also with the help of package and delivery you can keep record the emails.

Hope it helps !!

Thanks

Package does not work for this instance too many steps and we send out 20 to 40 quotes a day ,

we need a fast way to Send to EMAIL

Package not the answer.png

If your customers / suppliers have access to your Windchill system, one way would be this:

- Set up a subscription to a folder in a Windchill Project for external part(ies).  Initiate Subscription for the Folder, but then select types. Deselect Folder and select Document (assuming the quote is a document).  Create the subscription for New Object in folder.  Set it to a Group.  Add / remove external parties to this group.

We have many, many of this type of subscription in place - event in a folder for a certain object type, going to a group.

When you either create a new object in that Project folder or share to it (have to check Share), whoever is in the group gets a subscription email with a link to download the document.

there is a email document option but one at a time email.png

Jaime,

take a look at this discussion What's New In Windchill 10.2 M010-M030 for Document Management

We are expecting a CPS for 10.2 M030 to fix the issue.

Marco

I am looking in case of Part/Product
