XPLM for managing Pro E Files

earlier today I have seen a presentation from company called "XPLM" which developed a connector (workgroup manager) for managing Pro E files in Agile (http://www.xplm.com/en.html).

is there someone who is really using this product to managed Pro E file directly?

Hi Rami!

The technical/architecture problem with 3^rd party solutions like Agile EDM and Agile PLM is that they rely on Pro/TOOLKIT with backend server operations to handle the Pro/E data management functions. Why is this a problem? Well Pro/TOOLKIT does not give access to the most important functions that revolve around data management tasks/operations. Relatively normal Pro/ENGINEER usage creates extensive, complex relationships between objects (just try using purge in Windchill…if any relationship exists it won’t work). PTC struggles with managing their data and they have the keys to all the data management Pro/TOOLKIT functions.

I know some of these 3^rd party systems demo well, but real life is not a demo…throw a bunch of users at a system trying to get projects done with an impending deadlines, crafty people finding workarounds that should not be found, renaming parts that are used in 100’s of assemblies, unknowingly creating family table instances that have the same name as an instance in another table…etc, etc.

We’ve been migrating people off SAP PLM, Teamcenter, Metaphase, PDMWorks and other solutions that have come up short on their promises. Please be sure you are thoroughly understanding your requirements and doing due diligence across the board.
