I assume you are referring to auto-associating EPMDocs (CAD) with WTParts?
We do not auto-associate because we only create WTParts for a small
fracftion of our CAD documents (the CAD documents that describe our
saleable product and various tools to make it). >90% of our CAD is
created during the development of our products (concepts, prototypes, test
jigs, etc). Creating a WTPart for all of these just clogs up the system
with unused objects (that need unique names etc so they don't get confused
with the real thing). In addition, I have stopped actively linking CAD
documents so the Product Structure behaves (eg: often engineers put part
of the product into a tool to make sure it fits - this creates a circular
reference because the tool is used to make the part! This becomes very
annoying when the CAD assembly has been Approved so to fix the circular
reference it has to be Revised, modified and re-reviewed).
