changed AD server, now domain users can't log in

Yes. I made a copy of the original from before I did anything as a backup plan. When the original change attempt failed, I just renamed it back, ran the ant command, changed the info engine settings, applied and rebooted.

Are you talking about the auth-provider.XML or the auth.conf file? I have
seen where the ant command finished but the auth.conf file did not get
updated successfully.

The xml file. I've opened the .conf file and it appears to be updated properly. Correct AD server is specified and the objectClass is set as (objectClass=*) at the top of the conf file where the EnterpriseLdap settings are listed.

OK. That's good. Now, what exactly happens when someone in AD tries to
login? Does the login prompt present itself again or do the get a java
error screen?
