check in problem/references

everything in the model and workspace is complete, but when another user opens the assembly on their computer items are missing/have missing references

it seems that somethings get modified in creo but not checked in to windchill

does anyone have this problem, or know not to solve it?

Make sure that the 2nd user has all the appropriate permissions. If they don't have access to all the required files, it will result in missing references.

All files must be checked-in to commonspace for someone else to pick them up.  Just saving an assembly to your workspace will not get the files that the second user needs to open the already checked-in assembly.

We are having a similar issues and they goes like this (Creo 7.0.3.0 and Windchill 11.2):

Designer "A" works on a model and when the design is finished they check in the assembly and all the components. Designer "B" checks out the model and all required components and when they open the model parts and/or references are not there.

or

Designer "A" works on a model and when the design is finished they check in the assembly and all the components. Designer "B" checks out the model and all required components, adds components and completes the drawing(s).  Designer "A" adds them to a workspace, opens the drawing and either parts are missing, the views are skewed and all the dimensions are missing.

This same issue goes back to Creo 4 (we jumped from 4 to 7) and Intralink.  All of our users have the same permissions and they don't receive any errors when checking in the designs.

As a side note one Designer "A" is know for not properly constraining all of their components and they are the one this happens to most often.

Are there any skeleton models being used for placements of other components. We found that if the skeleton is changed and the size changes, it will through components out of position as well as throw dimensions and balloons all over on a drawing.

Constraining parts fully is a big driver in having components stay together when things may get moved.

You may want to verify some dates of when the files are being checked in to be sure they really are saved with the assembly(s). Unmodified files will not get checked in with the assembly.

Are there multiple people working on these files, besides UserA and UserB?

Is anyone modifying the components without the assembly?

It's possible that you may not have some Creo config options and/or Windchill preferences set correctly.  When you save the assembly to the workspace, are you seeing all modified models in the assembly also being saved to the workspace?  When checking in the assembly, are all related assembly models also being automatically collected for check in as well?  Is user 'A' leaving models suppressed in the assembly?

Have you resolved this issue?

One thing to remember is that UserA checking in their files does NOT update the workspace of UserB automatically. UserB will need to do a file sync and update on their workspace to get the latest files from UserA checking into commonspace. In some cases, I have had to remove all from a workspace and then open the top-level that UserA checked-in to get the latest CAD files into Creo.
