Version: Windchill 13.0
Use Case: How in real world substitute part is added in assembly with effectivity start and end date? How that part will be added/replaced with original part? Any recommendations from PTC?
Description:
Business is trying to add substitute part temporarily for original part in specific assembly, for specific duration, during which either original part OR substitute part can be used. But post that date, original part should be used.
Is such use case possible in Windchill and if yes, then how? Also, what is PTC recommendations for how to use substitute part in Windchill.

I believe this is not covered by the traditional substitute or replacement section. Effectivity is tied to the base component, not its replacements. I have not used them but I think what you need is covered by Variances, specifically, deviations.
Here you can declare how long the variance should be in effect for. This is not exactly transactional as you might expect but looks like a way to document. I wonder if a one-off version might give you what you need transactionally.
Thanks @avillanueva for suggestion.
Currently business is using effectivity date with substitute part. They are looking for ideal scenarios which will work and which will not. As, currently users are trying multiple scenarios, some of which are failing to transfer effectivity date to downstream system through ESI.
So, they need PTC recommendations OR use case. Customer is in electronics industry where they are using effectivity in ERP system, which they want to use in Windchill.
