new workstation slower - has significant lag

We are getting new workstations, Dell T-3610's, solid state drives, 16GB ram, Xeon E5-1603 Quad core and NVIDIA K5000 video cards, Windows 7, 64-bit. One thing we've noticed is a significant delay in Windchill 10.0 when selecting a command. For instance, in a collection dialog box for doing a rename in the workspace, if a user selects 7 out of 10 objects to remove them it will hang up with clicking the remove icon. It is about a 4-6 second delay, then it starts to execute the command. Our old workstations (T3500's) did not have this delay. We've timed opening assemblies and if it used to take 150 seconds it now takes about 170-190 seconds.

Any ideas why newer, faster hardware would be slower?

Thanks for any input.

Is there any difference between the browser used on new and old workstations? There can be performance differences between different browsers and versions.

We are running IE 9 on old and new workstations. The Java versions are the same as well.

Thanks,

Derek

Are the new and old workstations using the same version of IE9 (32 vs 64 bit)? IE9 introduced a new JavaScript engine that has improved performance over the old engine. But, this was only included in the 32-bit version of IE9. The 64-bit version still uses the old engine.

Have you done any client tuning on these new workstations? There are some client configuration changes that PTC recommends for optimal performance when interacting with Windchill. Take a look at CS23960 for these recommendations. You could also install and run the Windchill Client Inspector. The WCI will take a look at your client configuration and create a report of recommended configuration changes. See CS130553 for instructions on installing and running the WCI.

Hi,

One difference I can think of between the Dell T3500's and the T3610's is that the new machines use UEFI to boot rather than BIOS. It seems unlikely that this could cause the behaviour that you are seeing but it should be simple to change it and see if this is causing the issue you are seeing.
