[solutions] - Any one using Agile as a replacement for Intralink/ Windchill? Summary

All,

       Not many response but here is what I got.

The only company I am aware of that is using it as a complete
replacement in Zebra Technology in Chicago.  There may be others but
that is the main one I am aware of.  Some companies use Agile as their
enterprise PLM but still use PDMlink or Intralink to manage their cad data.

I think the biggest potential road block with any non-PTC data
management is renaming.  Most will handle renaming of things in the
database and update dependents in one way or another.  But, I haven't
seen any that handle a case where someone has an assembly and parts in
their workspace or working directory (or whatever the application calls
it), then one of those dependents is renamed in the database and that
new name is communicated to the workspace, working directory, etc.  What
usually ends up happening is the user checks in the assembly, but it
still references the old part name, so the old part is checked back in
as a new part.

We're using Oracle PLM (aka Agile) since 1997.

We directly connected CoCreate ME10, PTC WF4, Cadence Allegro and of
course MS Office to the PLM.

For spare parts catalogue creation we use the PLM Publishing Suite form
Sinteg which is connected to PLM too.

à This is our R&D PLM world.

For the ERP World, we hand over all material data, BOM and document
data to SAP (only PDF files).


What issues do you have with duplicating?
Our Engineers have not to care about naming. As soon as they start with
modelling, they store everything to PLM. If they duplicate they have to
take a part, make it private and check it in again -- then the connector
will recognise this part as unknown and give it a new number.

How does it handle assemblies that have frozen, suppressed or simplified
reps?
We have drawing rules which doesn't allow suppressed parts. Only allowed
in Engineering Assemblies -- who don't have a BOM.

Do you do BOMs from the Pro/E structures?
Our BOMs are more or less 100 percent of ProE. We use mass elements for
glue, grease or oil to get those BOM positions...
