3.0 to 2.0

How can I open a file created in Creo 3.0 on a machine with Creo 2.0?

use GRANITE®-Based Cross-Release Interoperability (GCRI) Functionality Implemented Starting in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0. (see https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS34964).

Follow the 2 steps below:

  • Copy the readnewermodels.dll file from the upper version folder
    • For Creo Parametric 3.0
      • Copy readnewermodels.dll from <Creo load point>\<datecode>\Common Files\<machine_type>\gcri
  • Paste the readnewermodels.dll file to the lower version in the following folder
    • For Creo Parametric 2.0
      • Put the readnewermodels.dll into <Creo load point>\common files\<datecodes>\<machine_type>\obj\

Now you can start CR2 and open CR3 file.

LIMITATION: You will not see feature history !!!

Welcome to the forum, Matt.

Technically, you cannot. You can export the file as STEP and open it in Creo 2.0 but I know that is not what you are after. There is a utility called Granite that can do this but the file will be compromised from the original parametric point of view.

If there is a critical need, you might ask customer support to give you a hand on this. But in general, you cannot do this if you want all your features transferred intact.
