Performing calculation in terms of unknown x

I am trying to do something similar to the following:

y(x):=2x*(5+2)

however with more complex variables and in terms of x, so ideally I'd like the answer in this example to show: y(x)=14x

Is there a way to do this in Mathcad? It seems like something with symbolically solving might work, but I still want the result assigned to another variable in terms of x.

Any help would be appreciated!

Try this

Thank you!

Yes, you have to use Mathcad's symbolics to achieve your goal. But its not "solve", its "simplify" you have to use. Sometimes, depending on the expression, "expand" and especially "factor" can be helpful, too.

I guess you don't want assign the result a variable but rather a function 😉

You don't even need "simpify" in the first, simple example.

Thank you!
