Add Replace with Existing in Product Structure Browser

In the Product Structur Explorer there is an action to replace a component with another or a new component while keeping all the usage link attributes. This is not existing in Product Structure Browser and would be quite helpful. The user experience could be even more improved if the inline search could also be used in a similar way. So doubleclicking the number of an existing component in the uses tab would allow to start an inline search.

The existing functionality for mass replacements within the change task is of course a similar and very helpful thing if your task is replacing objects in multiple existing structures. However, in cases in which you do not use change management - like in the early development starting from a copied structure - this functionality would allow to efficiently derive new stuctures from existing ones.

are you aware of the new SUPERCEED functionality in 10.2? This manages the replaces/replaced by use case within the change management. It will directly create the required links to maintain the replacement history and in the change task you directly have the change to do the mass replace in the affected BOMs.

In cases in which you do not use change management your idea is still valid - like in the early development starting from a copied structure I guess this can be helpful.

We just started with WTpart BOM management in Windchill 10.2 and have the same issue. The users are copying an existing structure with "Save As" and want to replace certain components with new ones.

Is there any chance to do this outside of the Product Structur Explorer without doing remove+add and adding usages attributes manually?

this 2 actions does not create a replacement link.  Is it planned in a future release ?

Replace with Existing / New has supported maintaining Usage attributes for some time already, Reference Designator was also maintained.  In 10.2 M030 we added support to maintain other Occurrence attributes such as Location or any other Occurrence soft attributes you might have created.

On the Replacement history- That is a great question - would you add that as an idea please.

I've created the Idea:   Replace with Existing and Replace with New in PSB should create an History Replacement link
