Initiate a release process from workspace actions menu

Initiate a release process from workspace actions menu

A "New Promotion Request" and "New Change Notice" action should be available from the workspace action menue.

User should be able to select as in the commonspace folder multiple objects he wants to release via these objects.

The PR and ECN are not hold in the workspace itself and would be created in the context the workspace is associated to.

Selected objects should be directly included in the promotable, affected or resulting object table.

Today a user needs first check in the objects, navigate to details page or commonspace folder to create new PR or ECN.

For multiple objects, which are not necessarily related, he needs to go to the home page, recently updated, copy & paste to add these objects to the PR, ECN

Thanks for the hint. But the solution in WT11 which is referenced here is only true for the Promotion Request.

It is not covering the Change Management as far as I can see

Oliver,

We will be supporting the ability to create a Promotion Request during Check-In in the Windchill 11.0 release.  We are also looking at the relationship to Change tasks in a future release -this would be for new and modified.  If the item is already on the change task the user is all set and we added the "Add to Workspace" action on Resulting Objects in 10.2 M020.

With Windchill 11.0 M020 we now support the ability to add a Part or CAD to a Change Task on a Change Notice from the Workspace.  There is a new action - Add to Change Task where the user can find or type in the Change Notice and then select the Task to add the data it.  It will then add the Parts/CAD to the Resulting Object Table

@JeffZemsky,

we're operating with consultant designers with access to ProjectLink only and managed to assign Change Tasks from Product context to them as well as share Change Notices and the corresponding Change Tasks to Project. However, it would be nice if they'de be able to edit the CT Resulting objects either by modifying the task or in WGM with that "Add to Change Task" which I guess eventually requires they have Modify rights to the CT which is the problem here.

I haven't tested thoroughly, but it seems that it's possible to grant Modify to individual shared CTs to externals through "Edit Access Control", but this is not very convenient. Is it possible to grant Modify rights 'automatically' and what are the required Access Policy settings?

Thank you for the idea. It is part of an active area of product enhancement and will be considered for a future release.
