Embedded Platform for Simulation-Driven Design of Plastic Parts in PTC Creo

Most of the manufacturing defects in injection molding could be resolved more efficiently at early design stage. However, due to the unpredictable behavior of molten plastic, common defects, such as weld lines, short shots, sink marks, voids, and warpage, are often discovered at later stages of part design. Some may even try to correct these defects with trial-and-error method after the mold is already built, which is not only time-consuming but the outcome is also humongous. It is obvious, design changes in the early stages cost less and lead to greater improvements on manufacturability. PTC Creo Mold Analysis is fully-embedded in PTC Creo environment to provide a fluent workflow during the part design optimization through efficient design-simulation iterations. “Moldex3D eDesignSYNC for PTC Creo” provides PTC Creo users a fully-embedded and extended environment to further evaluate the detailed runner and cooling system design of the entire mold. The simulation capability also supports advanced processes, such as multi-cavities, insert molding, sequential valve gate control, advanced hot runner. Users can directly examine from the simulation results without switching platform. Many tools are provided for higher usability. For example, mesh engine can generate 3D mesh automatically, thus requiring no additional training or CAD conversion. Also, remote computing and parallel process can speed up the calculation, and Machine control panel interface allows users to conveniently set up process condition. In this presentation, the presenter will demonstrate how to discover the possible defects in the early design stage by using eDesignSYNC and PTC Creo Mold Analysis. The presenter will also show how it will improve the product quality by changing the geometry with PTC Creo. Finally, attendees will see how dramatic improvements can be achieved by slightly revising the original design.

This sure would be a smart place to put a link to how to access this functionality (yes, of course, assuming one has the proper licenses) since it is rather hidden.
