Black Model Edges

Black Model Edges

Hi, I realy wanted my ProE models to have black edges because you can see your model detail better, and I have found out how to do it. I found it on an Optima newsletter PDF. You can type in 'optima ptc pdf winter' to google and it should be at the top (from 2007). Open the PDF and on the last page go to Edge Line Display. If you change geomety to black then add the Model Colors icon to your tool bar. What this does is gives you a grey part with black edges, then if you click the Model Colors icon the part reverts to your original part color (eg, red) with colored edges (eg, light red edges). This is OK, but you can only have black edges on a grey part. Also, in drawings the edges are black which is hard to see against a dark backround. There is a work around though. You need to use mapkeys to changes the colors. As I mentioned if you switch off black edges (grey part) you are left with your colored part with colored edges. You use a mapkey to create a red part with black edges (for example). What you do is start a new map key (named RED), record, then go to color and appearances, change the PART color to black then select SURFACE from the drop down, pick a surface, right click select solid surfaces, then apply your part color (Red). Stop and save the Mapkey/config.pro. You can then run this mapkey to color a part to be red with black edges. Another problem... If you run the mapkey then continue to add or remove material, any new surfaces are black, so you need to keep running the mapkey. What I do is use the Model Colors button, work on my model in grey with black edges, then run the map key when the part is finished so the part is colored like the real thing. Also, remember that I said the edges in drawings are black? You need another map key to change the 'Geomety' color to black, and one to change to white (in display, system colors). Run the white edges one when working in drawings, run black edges when working in parts. Sounds like a lot of work, but once its setup its good, I think black edges look much better, especially to see detail and for presentation screen shots. Hope this helps, i think I've expained it all correctly. Just remember to save all the configs, mapkeys, syscols ect so they load up next time you open proe.

I forgot to mention, when you run a mapkey to color a part (red with black edges for example), you need to click RUN then actually click a surface on the model to apply it. Otherwise it appears to have run but the part is completly black, so click a surface.
