Robust Modeling methods using 3D imported data

Hello Gurus -

Hopefully someone can help me with this since PTC has failed thus far.

We use ICEM to generate ID surfaces. I've got the techniques down for
importing and cleaning up the surfaces in ProE. I need advice with a best
practice for how to use the imported geometry in ProE to create mechanical
features in a robust way. At the end of the day we'll be updating our
imported geometry by redefining the import feature and reloading an ICEM
file - we use the auto reroute feature - trouble is, downstream features,
mainly edge features (like rounds, chamfers) fail because the internal
edge ids have changed - the surface ids seem pretty stable.

Can anyone suggest a tried and true technique?

Many thanks,

Paul
