Scanning/Reverse Engineering

This may not be the right forum for this, but I can't think of a better
one...

Has anyone had any luck with scanning an object and turning the results
into a real, usable Pro/E part? I'm not expecting individual features
or anything, but I'd like something that either comes in solid or can be
solidified with minimal cleanup.

Is the technology there yet or would I be better off to do it the old
way with measuring tools and building it directly in Pro/E?

We do this all the time using Geomagic Studio. For organic shapes, it works flawlessly with a little training. For more gemetric shapes we use the Fashions module for Geomagic. We bring those files into Pro/E as part of our regular process with scan data.
