Selecting an "Inside" Surface

Selecting an "Inside" Surface

Two part question: the first part relates directly to Pro/E; the second
part relates to anyone with a work-around for this behavior in Ansys.

How can I select a part surface instead of a feature surface? I've got a
complicated part with lots of intersecting features. When I select a
surface, Pro/E picks the entire surface of the feature. The problem is that
features that come afterwards in the model break up the surface into a
distinct "inside" and "outside" of the part (i.e. the original surface is no
longer continuous. When I'm picking a surface on the finished model, I want
to pick only either the "inside" or "outside" "real" surfaces (a single
continuously connected surface), not both (the surface of the original
feature before the addition of the subsequent features).

I'm actually using Ansys with Pro/E models and I'm trying to apply a
pressure load on an "inside" wall. I'm sure I can export the Pro/E model as
a STEP file so that Ansys (and any other 3D modeler) sees the "inside" and
"outside" surfaces as two distinct surfaces rather than one surface. I
don't want to do this because then the finite element model is no longer
associative with the Pro/E model. If I can fix this behavior in Pro/E, then
I'll be able to resolve it in Ansys.

TIA.
