WF4 "enhancements"

WF4 "enhancements"

Good afternoon gurus,

We've just made the jump from WF3 to WF4. There are a couple of things
we like, but so far the Common Folders pane (both in the main window,
and in the new - very cluttered-looking - File Open dialogue) is not one
of them.

Is there any way to:

a) turn off display of Common Folders;
b) if not a), remove any of the default entries;
c) make the Folder Tree expanded by default?

It also appears that WF4 doesn't place its menus anything like as
helpfully as WF3 when you have dual monitors, but I suspect we will just
have to live with that one...

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
We made the jump from WF2 to WF4 and had similar concerns.
Never found a way to solve a), did not think of b) and did not solve c) either.

But I continued with the Favourites Tab and I put all the project folders I want in there (renaming them if necessary to distinguish between them). I can get to this by clicking on the Favourites Tab or clicking favourites in the Common Folders. The big deal with WF4 is that you can now RMB and set one of these to your working directory!!!!!! (OK so I was very pleased to get this functionality)
In conjunction with this I have mapkeys for OP = open part, OA = open assembly, OD = Open drawing and these call up the older style file dialogue box (which is still available if you use File/Open rather than the tree.)

I have found over time that I use a mixture of both the newer and older method to navigate and get what I want so I suggest you go with the change. In effect PTC did move the cheese but they gave extra functionality to what already existed.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lyle,

We've only just switched to WF4, but WF3 has always worked well for us
on the default settings with dual monitors (nVidia nView in "DualView"
mode). The main model windows occupied the left screen, with the
majority of menus and dialogue boxes appearing at the left-hand edge of
the right screen.

WF4 basically seems to ignore the right screen, and put all the
dialogues within the left-hand screen, thus usually covering up
something you want to select. If you drag a dialogue to the right
screen, next time it loads it puts it on the right-hand edge of that
screen - it's moved it a whole screen across, instead of putting it just
over the border.

We've been on it three days, and my colleague's getting annoyed with it
already... 😉

I actually thought it handles the dual monitors better in WF4. I never expand the pro/e window to full screen, too often menus get covered up or show up under the working window. Granted this mostly happened in the single screen days. So it became habit to leave that screen area for the menus that come up.

When I started using dual monitors, I use the second monitor to drag a second window to.

I hated it when a menu or dialog box would come up on the other screen under my other pro/e windows. So I think this works better. My menus all stay on the same screen I'm working on.

There are other things I don't like about 4 but the way it handles dual screens, I think, is an improvement.
