WF3 mechanism doesn't work

WF3, M110

Mechanisms in WF3 give me fits.  They never seem to work exactly right.

I have a simple mechanism of 5 parts.  Part 1 is assembled by a 'default' constraint and the other parts are connected to it.  Parts 3-5 are tied to each other and part 1 and they move just fine.  Part 2 is only connect to part 1 by a single pin join, but it will not move.  I get the message 'You may not drag a model belonging to the ground body.', even if I suppress parts 3-5 so that only 1 & 2 are visible.  It's maddening.  Clearly, with a single pin joint, it's not a part of the ground body, yet it won't move.

Clearly I'm doing something wrong, but what?

Thanks,

Doug Schaefer
