Adept 9.0

Adept 9.0

No problem, I just thought the group would like to hear that I just received
(through company distribution channels) my copy of Arbortext Adept version
9.0.

I must remind myself that nothing ever gets lost around here. Some shipping
routes just take longer than others.

Re: Adept 9.0

I have always wondered why it takes so long to get those hot new fighter
aircraft into service 😉

Let's hope the same people aren't responsible for the manufacturing supply
chain...

Andy,
Your manager's name wouldn't happen to be Jimmy Hoffa, would it?

Re: Adept 9.0

Andy,

Next time see if you can't use USPS, even they are faster than your
corporate mail. 🙂 Oh yes and you will need to download a patch for the
help file. Seems the Adept 9 help file is missing the last 25% of its
information. Of course, the patch is not a complete release of the entire
help file, just a compiled HTML version of the missing pieces so you will
need to search for some things in one place, others in another.

Oh but wait, that was all fixed with the release of Epic 4.0, never mind.

Re: Adept 9.0

Hi Lynn,

I chased down what happened and it wasn't corporate mail at fault.

It was addressed to "Andy Esslinger, Arbortext Administrator" but sent to
the Unix system administrator. He didn't know me and his system didn't have
a need for Adept, so he stacked it on a shelf. When he retired his
replacement recognized my name and forwarded it to me.

I usually get at least two copies of everything via different channels and I
never noticed that one copy of 9.0 was missing.

Still, getting it this late is kind of unusual and I thought it was a
chuckle.

P.S.

I still have the patch (9.0.1) archived on a CD. If I remember right it was
easier to unzip all of the "postscript" documentation, convert it to PDF,
and do file system searches that it was to try to use the Adept help system.

Adept 9.0

Happy new year adepters.

I had a very old sgml document (1999) that exhibits page fidelity
problems when published with Arbortext Editor/Print Composer 5.3m040. I
was thinking that I might get a faithful PDF by installing the doctype
that the PDF was originally composed with. That PDF was no good, so I
tried installing the Arbortext Architect/Adept Publisher 9.0.

Interestingly enough the license I have (originally issued for Adept
Publisher 😎 wouldn't work with Adept Publisher 9, but Adept Architect 9
was able to compose PDF and I found out what I wanted to know (that
changing the executable does indeed screw up the pagination).

Questions:
Does anyone else ever have to regress back to Adept? If so, what
do you plan to do when Windows Vista gets installed?
I don't remember having a problem with Adept Publisher
licensing. Does anyone remember operating Adept Publisher 9 with a
version 8 license?
Thanks,
-Andy

Adept 9.0

Andy,

I haven't had to go back to earlier versions of Adept/Epic (we are dating ourselves you know) very often.  I've never had a Publisher license, so take this with a grain of salt.

As I recall right around the time Adept 9 came out, Arbortext (RIP) did some license changes and some licenses would work and others did not (between Adept 8 and 9)

I know I had a problem with the licenses working after one of the major upgrades, I just don't recall which version it was (and I no longer have access to my old Adept files, their computer died).
