IsoView ActiveX Control requires IsoDraw to be open?

IsoView ActiveX Control requires IsoDraw to be open?

When I open an XML document (containing a reference to an IsoView image), the .iso image does not get displayed unless the IsoDraw (7.0) application is already open. If IsoDraw is not open BEFORE I open the xml doc, the section where the image would have been shown contains the text: “launch IsoDraw before opening this page. Is this expected behavior??? Note: I am using XMetaL to view the XML file containing the .iso file and have associated the IsoView ActiveX control with a known tag within my XML document. If I have IsoDraw open before I open the xml document, the IsoView image DOES show correctly within the document in XMetaL. This is probably not a common scenario, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Neil, I assume that you use that version of IsoView that comes with the IsoDraw installation. This particular version is meant to be a testing environment outside IsoDraw (e.g. you can test your animations in it). However this version is not able to run without IsoDraw due to licensing reasons. If IsoView shall be used within a business process a license must be purchased. To test such a license you can download a version of IsoView at the PTC resource center on the PTC website (http://www.ptc.com/community/free-downloads.htm). Best regards, Christian

Thx for the reply! I was wondering if it was a licensing issue. I went ahead and downloaded and installed the trial version of IsoView (I had to uninstalled my existing version IsoView before the re-install) However, now I am getting the error "Can not find or start IsoView Server. Error 16" when I attempt to view an image. This occurs when I open my XML doc containing the IsoView image OR if I open a .iso file in IsoDraw and select the "View in IsoView" menu item. (I did try rebooting my system.) Any ideas of what I can look for? Thanks.

Neil, this could be a potential reason: Not all IsoView files are correctly installed (i.e. can not be found at the right place) or the machine on that the ActiveX control runs does not allow that the ActiveX starts an exe file (IsoEngine.exe). You could download the eval version again, to assure to have it correctly downloaded (compare size with previous download). Then reboot the machine, do not start any IsoView, and reinstall IsoView again. Maybe that already helps. A simple test is to drag and drop an iso file on IE. If it is displayed by IsoView then in general the installation worked well. Much success, Christian
