Multiple values in attributes?

Hi all,

I heard/read that it should be possible to have multiple values in an attribute (e.g. a "user" attribute that you want to use for profiling), if you define the attr as CDATA. Does anyone have experience with doing this in Editor?

Thanks
Wouter

Wouter,

It is possible to have a string of a variety of information in an attribute called (using standard rules) "anything you want" that is declared as #CDATA. You can separate the pieces, or values, with any valid character you like from a comma to dashes. This information could be used to profile your document, however you would now have to build the processing that would be needed to parse and make decisions on the content based on this new attribute value.

Profiling has been around in Arbortext since about 4.3 of Epic. There is a ton of info on the process in the online help system. Since this technology is already built into the product, you wouldn't have to do anything except to set up the profiling environment. The Editor would do all the rest.

There are dialogs for selecting your profiling, as well meaning you would not have to "modify the attribute," but rather use an explorer-type dialog whereby you simply check a box(es). On top of that, the technology already supports not only a selection of a single profile value, but also you can combine your options to be and/or and inclusive/exclusive. It's vary versatile.

This is assuming that your goal here is to be able to "profile" your content.

Hope this helps,

Bob
