modifying application entities?

I would like to modify, dynamically per doctype, a menu string defined in editorpath/custom/lib/dialogStrings.ent. Specifically, E3ComposeText. I want it to reflect the value of the option peserverurl, so instead of saying, "Composing on PE Server" it would say, "Composing on PE Server, peserverurl" where peserverurl was populated with option(peserverurl)'s output.

None of the entity functions (declare_, create_, or modify_text_entity) change the behavior of that dialog. I'm sure it's because those functions speak to entities within the current document. Bummer.

Has anyone ever modified one one of those entities dynamically? How did you do it?

Paul,
The file you are looking at is just the replacement text that is used elsewhere. By adding the command there, you aren't going to influence the action, just what appears in the dialog.
Take a look at this file and then start tracking down the commands from there
lib\dialogs\e3compose.xml
