pubview.exe error message

Need help from the experts.

When trying to print preview a document we are receiving pubview.exe error messages and the print preview window will shut down. Itis not specific to any doctype, XML document, workstation or user profile. We would see this ocassionally and would just perform another print preview operation, but recently it has been happening more and more and affecting multiple users. We are running Arbortext 5.2 M020 release.

Has anyoneexperienced this problem? If so how did you resolve it?

Sarah,

I don't recall running into a problem like this, but my memory can be
rather short, sometimes. 🙂

More importantly, I think we need more detail to diagnose the issue.
Can you provide examples of the error messages you're getting?

Sarah:

I ran into this problem with earlier 5.3 releases (M010, M020, M030).
Whenever users paged through the document, pubview.exe would throw an
exception, and a Galaxy debugger command window would appear. I told Leasa
Wert at PTC about the problem during the TC meeting, but since it hasn’t
occurred since we upgraded to M040 and later, so I haven’t had any data to
give her (and I thought I was just imagining the problem). The only
workaround when it did occur was to restart pubview.exe by running another
print preview.

If you have any error output from the exception, please forward it to
-.

Hi Sarah,

Sorry I don't have an answer to this one. However 5.2 M020 is quite an
old release, you should update to a later patch level as many of these
type of bugs are resolved.

I understand in a military environment this may not be as easy as in the
commercial world but perhaps there is a way you can test the new patch
outside your production environment to see if that does help.

Cheers,
Gareth

Sarah,

The only problem that we have had with 5.2 and Print Preview is that
when we try to advance more than about 10 or 12 pages, Print Preview
would close and we would gen a DOS "Galaxy Debug" window reading, "An
error has occurred. The following chain of information is available:
error1: /Return/Null/ message: No Windows resources <bitmap> Hit any key
to exit..." You could start Print Preview right back up again, but the
same thing would happen.

A call to PTC technical support yielded a sugggestion that we should, in
the Print Preview window select "View-Options-Extended Pages".

This seems to fix the problem.

I don't know if this is applicable to your situation.

That should be "get a DOS..." not "gen a DOS...". Might be misleading
if not pointed out that it was a typo.

Sorry for the late response I have been out.

Unfortunately since the problem is so sporadic I have not been able to recreate it. 1 day it is a show stopper the next day it is gone. Very frustrating.

I have read all the responses and will look into some of those suggestions. If I find a consistent fix I will post it along with the error message.

Again thanks so much for all your help.
