Thanx for all the ideas on how to fix my problem.
It appeared to be spyware related. GO figure. I didn't think this could ever be a problem, but...
I ran SB Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware. Found about 50 items crapping up my system. Pro started fine after removing the junk.
