J-Link Question

J-Link Question

I am looking at taking a J-Link class so asto learn howto use it. I'm new to programming,I've done a little with Intralink scripting, and I cannot figure out some simple examples to tell my boss what it can do so that I can justify the cost. Can anyone give me some examples of what it can do so that I can try to justify taking the class? I know that there will be benefit to using J-Link but trying to find it before knowing it, that is tough for me right now. ;o)

Anyideas will be much appreciated. I will post a summary, because it might spark ideas.

Thank you,

A classic question, almost as old as "the chicken and the egg" question. I would suggest that
you get to know the documentation and the problems you are trying to fix. What are your users
doing over and over again? Do you feel their pain?

Then you can do a little research into the documentation. If they are spending lots of time
adding parameters to models, can you automate that? (yes). If they are manually entering in
tabular data in the drawing, can you automate that? (yes). If they are changing units over
and over, can you automate that? (not until WF4). You don't need a training class to know if
the API is capable of automating a particular task.

An easy way to start into Pro/ENGINEER programming is to use Pro/WebLink (or the new VB API,
if you're on WF4 already). Pro/WebLink, the VB API, and J-Link are all based on the same PFC
foundation, which makes moving to J-Link pretty easy, if you need to.

Here's a couple of my recent articles concerning Pro/WebLink:

You can get up to speed without training using Pro/WebLink. Learn a little Java as you go.
Then if you go to J-Link training, you'll already be familiar with the PFC API's and Java.
I expect you'll get more out of the class that way.
