Non Compatible Tutorial Files

I recently purchased Pre/E Wildfire 3.0 Student/Personnel Use edition. I downloaded the zip file containing the tutorial files from PTC. I did download the file set specifically for the student edition. The file name is Intro_WF3_Tutorial_Student.zip. I extracted the files. I then attempted to open one of the files at random and recieved the follwing error message: The file c:\users\student\Intro_WF3_Tutorial\ ProE_Models\piston_assy_complete.asm was created with a commercial version of Pro/Engineer and is not compatible with this educational version of Pro/Engineer What good is it to purchase a software program and download the files required to begin a tutorial lesson just to discover that the program that you spent good money on is worthless? Is PTC so paranoid that they won't allow the student/personnel edition to open files created by the 'commercial' version of the same software? I've used Solidworks and they do not discriminate so severely between the educational/commercial editions. As an unemployed Mechanical Engineer I had hoped that by spending my money on this package I could learn what I could to allow me to become more marketable. Instead I find myself owning a software package that is impossible for me to train myself the basics of this program. So what gives?

Donald, Yes, it is ridiculous that PTC's tutorial files will not open in the "Student" version. I have heard rumblings about this before, but I had assumed - incorrectly it appears - that PTC had straightened it out. I myself have not used the student edition, so I have not had personal experience with the tutorials. I don't know if there is any form of technical support open to you - I would try calling 800-477-6435 and get to an operator to see what your options are. Failing that, contact the reseller from whom you bought the software. And, yes, it is true that files are not compatible between commercial and student versions of Pro. This has been the case since at least the student version of ProE 2001, and possibly longer. Regards

I'm having the exact same problem. I hope PTC fixes it soon... I’m also wondering why their guru’s are not reading and responding to forum concerns like this one?
