Workplane selection

I'm trying to do project 1, and have followed the video carefully. But when I select the extrude command, the workplane box is empty. I input the workplane to the box, but it gives me the error message ""Workplane has no real geometry. (Error 293)' using resolution 1E006"". I don't know what this means, but I can go no further with it. I can't even get started, and am getting frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are skipping a step. You need to create 2D geometry in the workplane before you can extrude it. The 2D geometry must be a closed profile. Note the use of the rectangle command in the ""geometry construct"" menu. Also note the feedback given when you select corners of the rectangle. The feedback will allow you to see the size of the rectangle you are building.

Do you see the rectangle on the workplane? Do you have more than one workplane? Make sure that you select the right workplane (the one with the profile) in the Extrude command. If you have multiple workplanes located in the world origin it is often better to double-click the workplane from the Structure Browser to be sure to select the right workplane. If all this does not help, could you please post a screenshot of your PE session including the structure browser, the graphics area and the active Extrude command? Markus

Hello Mark, After you create the rectangle on the workplane, what color is the rectangle? If it is purple, you are creating construction geometry. Construction geometry will not extrude. Check at the top of the Create 2D geometry menu. The Geometry button must be turned on.

Mike, That was it! Construction was checked, so I changed it to geometry and extrude works fine. Thanks! Lew Blomeley
