Showing Vents on round or non-planer surfaces.

I am curious to see what the easiest or best way to show a vent on a
non-planer surface.

Currently the only way I know how is to do a “use edge” in drawing mode,
which places a series of 2d sketched items. From there I trim the entities
to form a closed loop, and then do a fill with hatch, finally I relate the
resulting geometry to the view. This works ok as long as you don’t move
any of the geometry in model mode or want to change what the vent looks
like. I know that there was new functionality added in 2001 that allows
you to make 2d items in drawing mode parametric, I also know that it does
not work.

For vents on planer surfaces I create the vents using a cosmetic with
hatch in model mode, which works great, because it is a parametric feature
and is editable. This does not work for non-planer surfaces, due to the
fact you need to create the cosmetic using the projected style, which does
not allow you to apply hatch.

What, if any, other ways are there to accomplish this?

Running release 2001, build 2003280, on Windows XP.

Thank you,
