Loaded Catenary

Loaded Catenary

The attached file provides the solution for a cable supporting its own weight plus a point load at an arbitrary point on the cable. Each segment (one side of the point load) is a segment of a catenary. If the weight of the load is zero the entire cable hangs as a single catenary. Provision is made for the cable to stretch (elastically, proportional to the tension in the cable) and for the attachment points to move horizontally as a linear response to a horizontal force.

I realise this is from a long time ago, but I tried to convert the .mcd file to a .mcdx file using the latest version of MathCad, and it gave several errors and warnings and only converted half the file! Any chance you could generate a .mcdx file, or even a PDF file that I could read? Thanks! Ian Viney

Please find the PDF file (and Mathcad Prime worksheet) in the attachment.

Now (Mathcad Prime vs old Mathcad) we can use units in calculations.
