single quote? - how to bracket expression?

I may have missed it in the documetation:

a) how to put brackets round an expression to go from a+b to (a+b) so that one can procede to (a+b)*c

b) what does the single quote ' now do?
I see that after expanding my selection, it placed brackets around the expressiona, but also added the ' which then gave an error. [is it the differntial?]

You can do as in the current version, spacebar, spacebar,*

I don't get any single quotes when I do that, and if you spacebar it, you can get the parentheses to go around both, as well.

OK, I use the apostrophe a lot just to sort out groupings, and to post-facto, stick a function around the expression, etc.

searching the ribbon found "Prime (')" under Maths/Operators/calculus - Not sure I'd call the operator "Prime"

Inserting parentheses is now done with the parenthesis key, not the single quote (which is now a function derivative).
