Forum Archiving Policy

Beginning this month, we will launch a new community archiving program that targets any forum posts over 15 years old.

Why archive?

The PTC Community has some content that is over 20 years old! It is best practice, especially for a technology related community like this one, to clean out this older outdated content. This way we can ensure search results aren't cluttered with old irrelevant information and prevent community members from being misled by posts that are no longer accurate.

What will happen to the archived forum posts?

These posts will be moved to an archive where they will no longer be accessible by community members. They will no longer be searchable or indexed by search engines. However, nothing will be deleted, and they will be recoverable.

Will user statistics be affected?

No. Your post count, kudos, accepted solutions and any badges or ranks you've earned will not be affected by this. If one of your posts is archived, it will still be counted.

How often will this archiving occur?

We will archive posts over 15 years old twice a year, in January and July.

Which parts of the community will be affected?

This will only affect the forum style boards. Idea boards have their own separate archiving method and policy detailed here Product Ideas Archiving Policy - PTC Community. Knowledge base style boards (Tips boards) will be unaffected.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to provide an update on our forum archiving policy. We are extending the archiving window to 18 years. This means that no content will be archived unless it is over 18 years old. Effectively, this results in a 3-year pause on archiving, after which we may reassess the policy.

Thanks for your continued engagement and contributions!
