If you take 1 lb. of deuterium and remove all of the nuclear binding energy from it, how many gallons of H2O could you boil? (turn to steam)

Start this problem by finding the binding energy in Mev from the CRC handbook. Then you should know about mass defect, though in this problem it isn't going to affect it much. The energy needed to turn H2O to steam is many times the amount needed to boil it, so you need to find this. This should get you off to a great start.
