How Eclipse works with Windchill

Is there a way to test your code by connecting Windchill in Eclipse?
For example, in Windchill-linked Eclipse, can you test the work of retrieving or revising a version of an object and applying it as a workflow expression?

So let's connect Windchill to Eclipse. (Plugin or library?)
Write the code in Eclipse and make sure it works in the console log.
Apply the identified code to Windchill's workflow expressions.
is that right?

Is there any reason to integrate Eclipse with Windchill?

I found there is well defined steps provided on one of community discussion which surely help you in configuring Eclipse with Windchill. 

I am using same instructions from 10.0 to current 11.1 and I never any issue.
