Hello.
Base Windchill Functionality And/OR Classification (SUMA) for Windchill 10.0; What is the Best Way to classify?
Scenario:
Company looking to classify in a modern fashion in Windchill... In a previous system the classification was poor, but had cascading attributes.
Possibility One: To Mimic the old System; I would need to be able to Select a Value for an attribute "Category"; Which would then populate the interface with More Attributes; Which is I chose a Value would populate the Interface with more attributes. Some of these new Attributes would need to be required. Is this possible outside of customization, can it be done with customization.
Possibility Two: We can make approximately 400 SubTypes of wtparts; Then we can have specific attributes assigned to each SubType such as Length, Width, Material. The concern with this is the 400 Types is too long, and potential for a user to select the wrong Subtype when making the more obscure Parts.
Possibility Three: We can Reduce to 5 Subtypes of wtparts; Then however we would have a large number of EXTRA attributes as well as could not mark them as Required because what is required for one instance would not be for the other... (For Example if "Hardware" was a Type... Length would not be useful for a Washer but would be Required for a Screw)
Possibility Four:
We can begin to investigate SUMA (Supplier Management/PartsLink/CounterPart); I believe.... (but am not sure?) but that would mean we remove the classification attributes from the Windchill Part because the "Attribute/Value" of what it is would be maintained by the Windchill Classification System. I do not know if I can apply Attributes against that classification Type to require the wtPart to Populate the extra Attributes...
