We too had been getting this error with IE8 and Intralink 9.1 so I opened a call with PTC. However sometime during the 4 daysit took for them to get back to me with an answer the error had stopped by itself.
The latest reply from them this morning said "
1. Please navigate to Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > under Security tab, enable the check box for "Enable native XMLHTTP support".
2. Uncheck all the check boxes under Tools > compatibility view(Please seek a help from your IT team if it is not possible for you.)
Like I said we have stopped receiving the error so I wouldn't know if applying these changeswill fix the issue.
